My Approach

   



Simple. Practical. Sustainable. Holistic. With intention to increase joy along with wellbeing.

 

 

 

We'll use an integrative nutrition, holistic approach to health and wellness. Just like members of a football team work together and rely on each other in the game: your organs, fluids, and cells in your body work together and rely on each other to do their job to keep your whole-self in good health and wellbeing. If one is out of sorts, the rest try to pick up the slack, which may temporarily help. But the longer the issue remains, the harder it is for the entire team (your body and mind). Eventually the team will break down.

If a receiver isn’t catching the pass, the true issue could be the quarterback and/or the blockers as well as, or instead of, the receiver. One wellness example: a weight problem might not be caused by eating food but, rather, might be the result of broken sleep patterns that negatively impact metabolism. You could starve yourself of food yet still have a weight problem!

 

So, when you come to me, we won’t narrow-mindedly isolate one tiny ‘player’ but we'll consider other relevant "team members" to figure out what’s really causing the issue. We’ll start with the obvious suspects and, as appropriate, consider additional team members to improve your game plan and your chances of lasting success.

  • You'll envision your desired results.
  • In the context of your experiences, we’ll evaluate your “Primary Foods” and “Secondary Foods.”
  • You can develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of how they’re affecting your health and wellbeing.
  • Then, considering your bio-individuality, we’ll collaborate on your goals and motivations to strengthen the game plan you choose.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sessions are held by whichever method makes most sense for us: an online virtual meeting room I provide or in-person at a site we agree upon.

 

Each session is intended to give you the space and security and support to clarify your thoughts, feelings, goals, decisions, and action plans. They're also meant to inform, inspire, and motivate you. They can help you discover and shed limiting beliefs that may be sabotaging your efforts. You can also improve your awareness and skills for simple practical sustainable holistic steps that increase your wellbeing — and joy, too.

 

Between sessions, you practice and carry through on your game plan. We'll agree on how and when I can be available to you for any help you require between sessions. 

 

As you make your way toward victory, I’ll be there to coach you through the plays, avoiding or recovering from fumbles, and reaching the prize: your successful lasting results that enhance your health, wellbeing and happiness.

Integrative Nutrition Plate†

This approach acknowledges the importance of fresh & whole foods and avoiding toxic ingredients in favor of healthy high-quality produce, proteins, plant-based healthy fats, and water. It visualizes suggested portion sizes for "Secondary Foods" (the food on your plate).  It also visualizes some of the "Primary Foods" we'll cover (lifestyle factors that impact health & wellbeing) such as your approaches to relationships, career, physical activity, and spirituality (wellness of the human spirit). I’ll introduce you to some of the healthiest foods and lifestyle approaches on the planet and how you can find what’s healthiest for your unique body and spirit.

Primary Food†

Ever known someone who eats all the "right foods" yet struggles with their health and wellbeing? Optimal health and wellbeing is impacted by Primary Foods as well Secondary Foods.

 

We can look at your 12 Primary Foods, day-to-day lifestyle approaches and habits that can nourish or deplete your health and wellbeing. Beyond the four already mentioned (healthy relationships, fulfilling careers, regular physical activity [notice I said activity not exercise], and how you nourish your spirit), there are eight more Primary Foods I can help you assess.

 

Optimal health requires both balanced Primary Foods as well as healthy Secondary Foods. I will teach you approaches to nourishing Primary Foods.


Bio-IINdividuality*

Bio-Individuality is the concept that each of us has our own unique biological and lifestyle needs. As IIN founder, Joshua Rosenthal, illustrates his Bio-IINdividuality* concept: One person’s food can be another person’s poison. That’s one reason why no one diet works for everyone and fad diets tend to fail in the long run. Respecting your bio-individuality, I’ll support you to make positive changes that are based on your unique needs, lifestyle, preferences, and ancestral background.

 

 

 

Crowding Out††

Many nutrition experts focus their clients on restrictions and giving up things, which explains why so many people are turned off by 'health and nutrition.' What good is being healthy but miserable? So I prefer a different approach: focus on adding foods and practices that enhance your sense of wellbeing which, in turn, naturally "crowd out" previous desires for unhealthy foods and practices. It's a much more satisfying approach to improving the foods and habits you choose.
